Ghana International School (GIS) successfully hosted the second cohort of Visiting International Educators (VIE) for the 2023-24 academic year in March 2024. The cohort consisted of three members: Ms. Jennie Higgs from the United Kingdom, Dr. Eboni Bell from the United States, and Ms. Mariama Akunyare from Australia. They brought a diverse range of expertise and perspectives to enrich the educational experience at GIS.

The VIE team served across the various sections of the school and took part in activities like co-teaching with teachers and presenting workshops. They had the opportunity to observe and enjoy landmark GIS events like the GIS Musical (an adaptation of the Sound of Music this year) and the GIS PTA Bazaar. They also explored parts of the Central Region and the city of Accra and even made time to join the staff team in a basketball match against students! A truly immersive and culturally enriching visit that showcased camaraderie, community involvement, and international partnerships! It’s fascinating to hear that for some of the VIE, this experience marked their first time in Ghana.

GIS is glad to be part of such memories. The feedback session offered an opportunity for them to provide valuable ‘fresh eyes’ comments on the school. As always, they were extremely impressed and asked about maintaining and leveraging this wonderful experience.

The hosting of Visiting International Educators (VIE) at GIS exemplifies the school’s dedication to global education and cross-cultural understanding, as embodied in our motto: “Understanding of each other.” By welcoming educators from diverse backgrounds and countries, GIS creates an environment where students, teachers, and staff can engage in meaningful exchange, learn from different perspectives, and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.As we look forward to the next cohort of international educators, we would like to say ‘Congratulations’ to the staff, students, and parents who made and continue to make this happen!
