We are super excited to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Michelle Kwakugah and Joel Manu both Upper 6th Form Students of Ghana International School for winning Gold Medals at this year’s International Science Expo for Young Scientists in South Africa. Michelle’s project which required “Using Machine Learning to Discover Novel Drug Combinations for Malaria” was adjudged the overall winner in the Biomedical and Medical Sciences category. This is the second time a Ghanaian student has won the overall best category award at the event while Joel’s project which earned him a solid gold was based on the topic “Out-Of-Distribution Detection with Neuron-Perturbed Classifier Ensemble”.

When asked by the GIS Media and Communications team how they managed to be this successful in not just their academic lives but in other external activities/ projects such as this, they attributed their success to finding out what one is passionate about besides school work and making a deliberate effort to work hard on fine-tuning it to perfection. A very big thank you to Mr. Narh and Mr. Sowah in our Math Department for encouraging them and for playing a beautiful part in this success story. Ayekoo!!!Congratulations GIS! We did it!!!
