On Saturday, January 25, 2025, Ghana International School proudly hosted the MISE Solve-A-Thon 2025, bringing together 15 top schools and 100 of the brightest young problem-solvers for an electrifying competition of skill, strategy, and pure mathematical genius!
The challenge kicked off with the Individual Round (AMC 8), where students raced against time to solve complex problems. One of the most remarkable moments? Kwabena Obiri-Yeboah, a Year 5 prodigy from GIS, defied the odds to secure 3rd place—an incredible feat against older and more experienced contenders!
The excitement escalated in the Team Challenge Round, where collaboration was key, followed by the high-stakes Championship Round—a nerve-wracking elimination battle featuring the top 12 competitors. Kwabena pushed through to the final six before being eliminated in a thrilling face-off against Sophia Razafimahefa (Lincoln Community School), who claimed the championship title.
GIS delivered a stellar performance, with Niu Zixuan and Yaw Nsafoa Manu-Sarpong finishing in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively! A testament to the depth of talent at our school!
But this is only the beginning! 30-35 top performers will now enter an elite training program with MIT mentors. From this select group, 16 outstanding students will go on to represent Ghana at the International Mathematics Competition (IMC) this summer!
The MISE Solve-A-Thon 2025 was more than a competition—it was a celebration of intellect, perseverance, and the power of young minds to shape the future. Congratulations to all participants, and we look forward to seeing Ghana’s math champions shine on the world stage!
