Welcome to the Infant School
Akwaaba! Welcome to Ghana International School Infant School’s home page!
We are delighted to have you join us at GIS Infant School, where we believe every child is on a journey to become the best version of themselves and make meaningful contributions to the world. Our vibrant and nurturing environment fosters holistic learning and character building, empowering children to thrive and build lasting friendships as they embark on their educational adventure.
At the heart of our Infant School is a dedicated team of teachers who cultivate a happy and caring atmosphere where every student is valued, nurtured, and supported. Our learning extends beyond traditional classrooms, integrating outdoor and experiential learning across our beautiful green campus. We seamlessly incorporate technology into our learning experiences, ensuring that each child progresses at their own unique pace.
Our Infant School caters to children aged 3 to 7 and comprises:
- Two Nursery classes (3 and 4-year-olds)
- Three Reception classes (4 and 5-year-olds)
- Four Class 1s (5 and 6-year-olds)
- Four Class 2s (6 and 7-year-olds)
This structure aligns with the Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception) and Key Stage 1 (Classes 1 and 2) of the English educational system. We are proud to have students from over 20 different nationalities, supported by more than 60 teachers and teaching assistants
.We follow the Cambridge Early Years Curriculum while enriching it with many learning opportunities including our embedded 6 GIS Attributes, a strong culture of personal, social, emotional, and health education, ‘Sankofa’ valuing cultural impact and diversity, Technology in Problem-Solving, and our service learning, which emphasises that every child is capable and filled with potential and curiosity to unravel that can positively impact our community.
Our philosophy is centered on developing the whole child, encouraging a spirit of joy, awe, and enthusiasm for learning. We aim to instill a positive, “I-can-do-it” growth mindset and promote cooperation and sensitivity towards others, in line with our motto: “Understanding of Each Other.” Our school is a happy place where we explore new things, learn from mistakes, share ideas, and celebrate one another. We also encourage our students to use their performing arts talents as a service to the community, promoting well-being and strengthening our ties with those around us. This commitment to the arts, combined with our focus on academic success, allows us to maintain a rare balance of holistic learning and achievement.
We provide our students with access to dynamic thought leaders and professionals who invest their time and expertise in our learning environment. Collaborations with our older Lower 6th form students in literacy and math inspire our children to maximize their potential, reminding them of their infinite capacity to excel. Our methodology emphasises learning through play and engaging experiences that promote our six Attributes: Display Creativity, Think Critically, Be Socially Responsible, Be Internationally Minded, Be Disciplined and Communicate Effectively.
We cherish our partnership with parents, recognising that together we create lasting memories and impactful bonds. This collaboration enhances our students’ experiences, allowing them to grow and flourish within a supportive community. At GIS Infant School, we celebrate diversity and embrace the incredible potential of every child, fostering a love for learning that will last a lifetime.
We warmly invite you to visit us and experience our vibrant community firsthand. Join us on this exciting journey where every day is filled with discovery and joy, and where we work hand-in-hand with families to shape the leaders of now and tomorrow. Welcome to a place where learning is an inspiring adventure, and every child shines!
