DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES

• Provides confidential advice and support to students on an individual basis
• Assists in organization of monthly Pastoral Care sessions for all students
• Assists in organizing school activities geared towards nurturing a student mindset of tolerance and compassion.
• Provides comprehensive support in the college selection and application process
• Registers interested Sixth Formers for Enrichment Programs and Examinations
• Organizes College / University fairs and information sessions
• Coordinates with the Special Education Needs department to provide comprehensive cognitive assessments and accommodations for students needing it.

NON-ACADEMIC ACTIVITES

• Students at Ghana International School are encouraged to be academically and socially balanced individuals to succeed in their future endeavour. Alongside their studies, students get involved in other programmes that enhance their learning and expose them to numerous non-academic activities in order to provide them with the needed life skills for college and beyond. The following are some of the programs on offer:
• Students are given the opportunity to audition for roles in the annual school musical production which is a resounding success every year.
• They also have a range of co-curricular activities to select from. The co-curricular coordinators make this available yearly. Students are given the opportunity to institute clubs and social groups that they believe would enrich their experience. Among these innovations are the Leadership and Entrepreneurship Club and the Think Tank.
•  Students in Sixth Form are encouraged to give back to the school community and acquire time management, team building as well as communication skills through the following programmes:
•  Study Works: Students in the top ten percent of their class are invited to join this programme. The aim of the program is to academically support students in the lower forms through tutoring. Students also learn study skills during the programme.
• Reading Buddies: Sixth Form students assist students in the Infant School to practice their reading skills and discover the pleasure of reading.
•   Community Work: Upper secondary students are to demonstrate their social responsibilities by engaging in activities that support and develop their local communities.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

External Examinations

Ghana International School is a registered SAT and ACT test centre. The school runs Mathematics and English extra classes on the campus to prepare the students for the SAT test only. Please feel free to contact any of the Career and College Counsellors for further information or registration.

College-related programmes

During the summer months, Sixth Form students are encouraged to partake in university-sponsored summer programmes as well as work internships. Some of the more popular programmes include the Model United Nations, Yale Summer Program, Global Youth Leaders Conference and Lead America. GIS Sixth Form students have received a lot of pre-university training and college preparation skills to participate in these events.
