On 11th June 2018, at the Infant School, Year 2 pupils were elated to have in their midst, His Excellency, the Former President of Ghana, Flt Lt (rtd) Jerry John Rawlings to shed more light on why the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park & Mausoleum was built.
His visit came about as a follow up to an educational field trip by Year 2 pupils to the Memorial Park where they learned about Ghana’s history and the architects of Independence and what is being done to honour them. Pupils had the opportunity to engage with the former President. As they probed, he answered many questions confirming that indeed, the park was built in memory and honour of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president and one of the Founding Fathers of the nation. He also highlighted that the Memorial Park was built on the Old Polo Grounds exactly where Dr Kwame Nkrumah declared our independence as a nation in 1957. He later encouraged pupils to stay focused, work hard and believe in their dreams. Thank you, Your Excellency, for taking the time to have an insightful morning with our Infants!
