Sports Day 16th February 2022, was a memorable occasion! The GIS sports field, our venue for the event this year, lent authenticity and informality to the games, bringing out our community spirit. What a day it was! Innovation was the name of the game! With students competing in their houses for Juniors (Lower Secondary) and Seniors (Upper Secondary), we had the usual Athletic 100M and 60M Flat Race and an adaptation of Team Games such as the Lime and Spoon race, and Potato Picking, where students ran to put a bin bag into 4 Hula Hoops and ran back to the starting point. Fill the Bottle, another fun game, had opposing teams fill bottles with water, and the sack and slalom races were both highly energetic!

The games’ special rules made them challenging and fun, despite seeming misleadingly easy. In all of these, the fastest team to finish won the race. The highlight of the day was the first-ever Staff against Graduating Class soccer match. The excitement of seeing female staff compete against the girls, and the male staff against the boys in the Upper six was palpable! The female game started with the kickoff from the Principal herself, with the game ending in a draw much to everyone’s delight. The men’s game saw staff suffer a disappointing 2:1 defeat to the graduating class, their best efforts. What is evident is that we have budding professional footballers in our midst! Amidst cheers, the day ended with Purple House winning the coveted House Cup.

This year’s Sports day will go down as one of the most exciting Sports Days ever! A special assembly was put together to honour all our sports legends including the respective houses which made the top three places.
