Ms. Bianca Amoabeng has been selected as one of the top science students from across Africa to showcase her summer research projects at the 2017 International Science Expo. The event is scheduled to take place in South Africa from 3rd to 6th October 2017.
During her summer holidays, Bianca investigated Machine Learning Methods in Healthcare Diagnostics with a special focus on early detection and diagnosis of Cancer. This was under the expert guidance of Ms. Amy Zhang of Facebook Artificial Intelligence Research Group and Dr. Akwasi Nketia of Oxford University.
According to Bianca, “We used Python coding to create a program which took in images from a mammogram and detected whether the patient has breast cancer or not. Due to the learning experience I attained from the research program, I have gained some confidence on the project. I am grateful for this opportunity and for all the support I received from MISE, my Parents and God. I hope to go further.”
GIS is very proud of Bianca’s excellence and hopes that this opportunity will further prepare her for participation in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh USA in May, 2018.
Bianca has previously taken part in the MISE and Pi Day competitions and recently received an award for excellence from the Association of International Schools of Africa.
Congratulations Bianca! Keep up the good work and continue to aspire for greatness.
