Two Global Stages, One Exceptional Journey: GIS Students Shine at MISE 2026

From over 600 students across 100+ schools, the 2026 MISE journey was nothing short of extraordinary, narrowing through intense stages to just six national finalists.
And at the heart of it all: Qi Wang and Yaw Omane Boamah of Ghana International School.
Both have earned the honour of representing Ghana at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), with Qi Wang emerging as the first-best overall, a powerful mark of excellence.
But they didn’t stop there.
Amidst the demands of IMO preparation, they took on the rigorous MISE Research Programme, pushing their minds into real-world, graduate-level mathematics. And once again, they rose, emerging as finalists and securing a place at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).
Two global stages. One exceptional journey.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the MISE Foundation for this life-changing platform, to their dedicated coach, Mr Sowah, and to their ever-supportive parents. This achievement is a shared victory.

We reopened on Monday, 13th April 2026, launching into a final term filled with purpose, ambition, and possibility. Our students returned with bright smiles, renewed energy, and a determination to finish strong.
As our cameras moved around campus in the morning, one thing stood out: the excitement was undeniable. From joyful reunions with friends to the buzz of classrooms coming back to life, there is a shared sense of focus and motivation in the air. This is more than just a new term; it is an opportunity to push further, aim higher, and make every moment count.

NHSMUN 2026: A Journey of Global Exposure and Growth

The NHSMUN journey for our students continues to be an incredible blend of learning, global exposure, and unforgettable experiences! Over the past two days, our delegates have been immersed in moments of inspiration and growth.
A highlight was their visit to the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), New York, where they gained valuable insight into innovation, creativity, and the dynamic spirit of a global city. This was followed by an engaging NHSMUN Training Session that further sharpened their diplomatic skills and prepared them for meaningful participation in committee debates.
They also had the unique privilege of visiting the Permanent Missions of Ghana
and Kuwait
to the United Nations, where they experienced first-hand the realities of diplomacy and international relations on the global stage.
Our delegates are energised, confident, and ready to make their voices heard in the upcoming debate sessions.

A Milestone in Music: GIS Wind Band Turns Two

Our Wind Band recently marked a special milestone! It was their 2nd Anniversary, and what a beautiful celebration it was!
Their sterling performance at the Junior School filled the hall with harmony, confidence, and pure joy. Every note reflected the dedication, teamwork, and growth that have defined their journey over the past two years.
A huge thank you to our amazing music team, our Junior School Vice Principal, Ms. Nadia Bruce-Muller, the visionary for this amazing programme, and our talented musicians for their hard work, passion, and commitment.

Inspiring Minds: Form 3 Students Engage with Author Dr. G. A. Agambila

Selected Form 3 students were truly captivated during their recent interaction with renowned author Dr. G. A. Agambila! His young adult novel Bolga by Bus, which explores poverty, rural-urban migration, and child trafficking, sparked a deep and meaningful conversation.
Guided by Mrs. Joseph, Head of the Literature Department, and Mr. Gabriel Boateng, History Teacher, students engaged in an eye-opening interdisciplinary dialogue that connected literature to real-world social issues.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Agambila for inspiring our learners and enriching their understanding through story and reflection.

Building a Better Ghana: GIS Partners with YWCA for Literacy Initiative

Social responsibility is a core value for GIS learners. As part of the Form 2 Leadership Programme, students participate annually in a community service initiative that enables them to put their leadership skills into action.

On 10th January 2026, GIS launched a Literacy Programme in partnership with the YWCA Library, Adabraka, Accra. In line with our literacy initiatives Ms. Grace Hanson and Mrs. Lydia Quansah, the patrons of our Social Responsibility Club, have been working closely with pupils of St. Joseph’s Basic School in the Adabraka community. These pupils form part of the target group for literacy improvement under the YWCA Library programme, led by Mrs. Irene Elizabeth Baitie, a former GIS parent.

In her opening remarks, Mrs. Angela van der Puije, the Vice Principal of the Lower Secondary School, highlighted the critical role of literacy in national development and its importance in building a better Ghana. A representation of GIS Form 2 students had the opportunity to mentor pupils from St. Joseph’s through engaging activities, including a panel discussion on the power of reading, a reading contest, and an interactive literacy quiz facilitated by Mrs. Lydia Quansah. The day culminated in a book donation from GIS to the YWCA Library.

Beginning Saturday, 17th January 2026, Form 2 students and teachers will lead literacy activities at the YWCA Library every Saturday. Each student is expected to participate in at least one session, reinforcing GIS’s commitment to leadership, service, and social responsibility.

Young Minds, Big Decisions: Student Leadership in Action

At the heart of an excellent education is the student voice. We recently held our Infant School Student Council meeting, focusing on the critical area of procurement and resource selection.

Moving far beyond simple “wish lists,” our student representatives engaged in a sophisticated, analytical process to evaluate age-appropriate resources for our school. By analysing needs, comparing options, and establishing clear criteria for their decisions, these young leaders learned to think beyond immediate gratification. They worked as a unified team, listening to multiple perspectives to propose what is best for our community both now and in the future.
It was truly inspiring to see how precise and forward-thinking our students can be. By involving them in real-world decision-making, we aren’t just buying resources; we are fostering the next generation of critical thinkers and civic leaders.

Alumni Spotlight: Emmanuel Ashun!

Today, we celebrate the remarkable journey of Emmanuel Ashun, a proud member of the GIS Class of 2016. Emmanuel studied Economics, Art, and French for his A Levels, laying the foundation for a creative and globally minded career.
After graduating from the prestigious YSDN program at York University in Toronto, he became a graphic designer for Oliver & Bonacini Hospitality. He now lives in New York, where he serves as a Senior Designer at Endeavor Global. This nonprofit organisation supports scale-up founders and entrepreneurs across emerging markets.
Most recently, Emmanuel played a key role in the branding and design work for Endeavor Week at the New York Stock Exchange. This milestone reflects not only his talent but also his dedication, creativity, and drive to make a meaningful impact.
Emmanuel’s story reminds us that with passion, hard work, and a willingness to step beyond your comfort zone, the world becomes your canvas. We are incredibly proud of him and can’t wait to see what he creates next!

A Journey Back in Time

As part of our History curriculum, pupils explored what life might have been like for early humans by mimicking Stone Age cave paintings, creating stone-inspired jewellery from seashells, building farming and hunting tools, and sketching ancient mammals such as woolly mammoths, giant bison, and deer.
Our Year 3 pupils travelled back in time to the Stone Age through a series of exciting, hands-on activities!
These immersive activities not only made learning fun but also deepened pupils’ understanding of early human innovation, survival skills, and creativity.
Experiences like these help children make meaningful connections between the past and the present, strengthening their appreciation for human history and development.
A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated teachers for bringing history to life and making it a truly memorable experience for our young learners!
