Ghana International School is extremely proud to celebrate the phenomenal achievement of one of our students, Qi Wang, who has made history with her outstanding performance in the recent IGCSE examinations.
Qi Wang achieved an incredible 11 A* grades across a diverse range of subjects, including:
Mathematics and Additional Mathematics;
The three physical sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics);
Three languages (English, Chinese and Spanish);
ICT;
Economics; and
Literature in English.

This remarkable feat is even more inspiring considering that English is not her first language and most students tend to offer 8 or 9 subjects at the IGCSE. Indeed, Qi Wang entered the Primary Section of GIS speaking almost no English. (Congratulations to her ESL teachers!)
Her dedication, resilience, and brilliance reflect the very best of our school’s commitment to nurturing world-class learners who rise to any challenge.
The IGCSE is globally recognised as a very demanding secondary school qualification, requiring both depth and breadth of knowledge, critical thinking, and consistent hard work. To earn multiple As in this rigorous examination is a rare accomplishment—and to achieve 11 A*S, is truly extraordinary!
It is instructive to note that in addition to achieving this outstanding feat, Qi Wang has taken full advantage of the school’s immense co-curricular offerings and has been involved in many activities outside the classroom. She has won Gold medals in the VANDA Science Olympiad and in the Maths Olympiad. She has been a debater, a member of the MUN and a volunteer at several school programmes.
Qi Wang’s success is a shining example of a student who combines self-discipline and an awareness of the opportunities available in GIS to excel. We could not be more proud of you! Congratulations, Qi Wang!

As the longest-serving Board Chairman of GIS, Mr Kwame Pianim believes that a strong mind can hold down conflicting views and be able to understand them thoroughly. To honour his passion for research-based discussions, GIS has dedicated an annual debate in honour of him. In light of this, he was recently invited as the Special Guest of Honour to enjoy one of our numerous debates under the topic “African Countries Should Not Import Goods That They Produce Locally”.

It was a delight to see our Lower 6th Form students do a great job debating against the resolution while our relentless Form 4 students argued in favour of the aforementioned. Everyone listened with rapt attention and very much enjoyed the debate. At the end of the session, the Judges declared the Lower 6th Form Speakers winners. A big thank you to our Teachers in the English Language and Literature department Ms Grace Hanson, Mr Ben Morgan, Mr. Francis Agabey Abaayakanoipo, Ms Mary Bushel, Mr. Prince Peasah Edusei and Mrs Carol Odamtten for teaching our students the beautiful art of confident, eloquent and intellectual debating. Congratulations to everyone! Ayekoo!
