Ghana International School is extremely proud to celebrate the phenomenal achievement of one of our students, Qi Wang, who has made history with her outstanding performance in the recent IGCSE examinations.
Qi Wang achieved an incredible 11 A* grades across a diverse range of subjects, including:
Mathematics and Additional Mathematics;
The three physical sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics);
Three languages (English, Chinese and Spanish);
ICT;
Economics; and
Literature in English.

This remarkable feat is even more inspiring considering that English is not her first language and most students tend to offer 8 or 9 subjects at the IGCSE. Indeed, Qi Wang entered the Primary Section of GIS speaking almost no English. (Congratulations to her ESL teachers!)
Her dedication, resilience, and brilliance reflect the very best of our school’s commitment to nurturing world-class learners who rise to any challenge.
The IGCSE is globally recognised as a very demanding secondary school qualification, requiring both depth and breadth of knowledge, critical thinking, and consistent hard work. To earn multiple As in this rigorous examination is a rare accomplishment—and to achieve 11 A*S, is truly extraordinary!
It is instructive to note that in addition to achieving this outstanding feat, Qi Wang has taken full advantage of the school’s immense co-curricular offerings and has been involved in many activities outside the classroom. She has won Gold medals in the VANDA Science Olympiad and in the Maths Olympiad. She has been a debater, a member of the MUN and a volunteer at several school programmes.
Qi Wang’s success is a shining example of a student who combines self-discipline and an awareness of the opportunities available in GIS to excel. We could not be more proud of you! Congratulations, Qi Wang!

As the longest-serving Board Chairman of GIS, Mr Kwame Pianim believes that a strong mind can hold down conflicting views and be able to understand them thoroughly. To honour his passion for research-based discussions, GIS has dedicated an annual debate in honour of him. In light of this, he was recently invited as the Special Guest of Honour to enjoy one of our numerous debates under the topic “African Countries Should Not Import Goods That They Produce Locally”.

It was a delight to see our Lower 6th Form students do a great job debating against the resolution while our relentless Form 4 students argued in favour of the aforementioned. Everyone listened with rapt attention and very much enjoyed the debate. At the end of the session, the Judges declared the Lower 6th Form Speakers winners. A big thank you to our Teachers in the English Language and Literature department Ms Grace Hanson, Mr Ben Morgan, Mr. Francis Agabey Abaayakanoipo, Ms Mary Bushel, Mr. Prince Peasah Edusei and Mrs Carol Odamtten for teaching our students the beautiful art of confident, eloquent and intellectual debating. Congratulations to everyone! Ayekoo!

This year Lower Secondary School celebrated its 10th “Leadership Day” Anniversary. Leadership day is a programme designed for Form 2 students at GIS to equip them with exemplary qualities for leadership roles in Form 3. Yearly, the students are encouraged to get involved with the community and give back. This year as the committee began to explore what could be done, GIS was approached by Ms Belinda Bulley Mantse, Headmistress of Mantse Tackie 1 Primary & KG School for help. Committee members of GIS visited the school with the Form 2 -character Ambassadors. The Character Ambassadors interacted with the students there and were given a full tour of the school. They were also able to visit the washrooms and all the classrooms. They interacted with students and asked what they could do to make them happier at school.

The Character Ambassadors returned to school and shared their experiences with their classmates. This was the “Empathy Stage” where they deliberated and decided to bring in gently used school bags, shoes, storybooks and stationery. They also donated cash for toiletries and more stationary as well as History, English and Math Textbooks and GIS Furniture.

The donations were overwhelming. Students along with parents and community members contributed over 13,000 Ghana Cedis. On Thursday 16th March 2023, we were excited to hand over everything we collected to Ms Belinda Bulley Mantse, Headmistress of Mantse Tackie 1 Primary & KG School. A big thank you to everyone who donated towards making today a success and for putting a smile on the faces of these pupils. Let’s continue to show kindness and not look the other way when the opportunity presents itself. #Changeliveswithkindness Ayekoo! #GhaIntSchCares#GIS#kindness#giveaway#giveback#give#Community #communityservice#share#love#donate#impact#change

This year marks our 10th Leadership Day Anniversary. A programme designed for Form 2 students at GIS to equip them with exemplary qualities when they take up leadership roles in Form 3. We are excited about how far we have come as this platform continues to create opportunities for students to explore their leadership potential and inspire them to become principled inquirers, effective communicators, and reflective risk-takers, who are knowledgeable, open-minded and poised to create a better and more peaceful world together. Under the theme “Think Critically, Build Character, Lead the Way!”, this year’s event took place yesterday Saturday, 4th March 2023 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at Hill View Guest Center, Abokobi. A special thank you to our kind sponsors Zenith Bank Plc, GIS PTA, GIS Alumni Association, Sunshine Health Care Center and Kofi Tawiah Foundation for making the entire experience worthwhile for our students and teachers. #GhaIntSch #GIS #leadership #LeadershipDay #GISLeadershipDay #effective #makingadifference #teaching #learning #Leader #leadbyexample

11 Lower 6th Form Students of GIS have been selected to participate in the University of Nottingham’s Bridge Building Competition on Saturday, March 11th 2023 from 8 am to 5 pm. The program will provide students with an overview of Civil engineering and an introduction to bridge-building concepts. As part of the preparations, students will take a trip to Atimpoku to observe how the Adomi Bridge was designed and constructed. After this observation, they will be given materials to build a model bridge after which a second session will require them to build an even larger model bridge which will then be tested for durability and aesthetics by the organizers of the competition. A special thank you to our amazing Physics Teachers, Mr. Schuman, Mr Akrobotu, Mr Schandorf, Mr. Botchway as well as Mrs Rianatu Mensah our Career College Counsellor for encouraging, supporting and preparing our students for this new and exciting challenge. Wishing Orianne Gyampo, Nana Kofi Nsiah Tabiri, Maanvendra Kothari, Korkor Gogo, Keren Owusu-Ansah, Kendise Quartey, Joshua Ane, Jason Brocke, Gabriel Tetteh, Edem Osae, Ebow Quaicoe and Aba Kwofie all the very best!
Congratulations to Genevieve Budu, our GIS Upper 6th Form Student for emerging winner of the National UBA Group (United Bank of Africa) Essay Competition. The essay that earned her a whopping $5000 was on the topic “Sports Betting and what the Ministry and Betting Commission should do to regulate activities of under-aged persons participating in sports betting”.

Having competed with over 400 contestants from across Ghana, she was shocked that she actually won. Something that was meant to be a casual fun experience actually turned out to be far bigger than she could have ever imagined. Speaking with the GIS Media and Communications Team, she explained how being an Economics, Chemistry, Biology and Math student required a lot of research and how this basic skill she’d learned over the years facilitated her winning the competition.

She also went on to mention how important it was for students to be conscious of the things happening around them as this helps in further opening up their minds in keeping abreast with current events. She is excited to see what doors this experience and opportunity will open and is encouraging her mates and students to continue to participate in intellectual competitions such as these. She plans on using her winnings to pay for her University education as it was meant to be a scholarship award. From all of us here at GIS, we say well done Genevieve and a big thank you for making us so proud!!! We wish you the very best!!!
