Ms. Nadia Bruce-Muller, Incoming Principal/Head of School

The Board of Ghana International School is pleased to announce the appointment of Nadia Bruce-Muller as the new Principal and Head of the School, commencing September 2026.

Ms. Bruce-Muller is a distinguished educational leader with over 25 years of international experience spanning North America, Europe, and Africa. She brings extensive expertise in globally recognised curricula, including Cambridge, the Ontario Curriculum, and the International Baccalaureate. She combines this with a strong record of strategic leadership, instructional excellence, and inclusive educational practice.

She has served as the Vice-Principal of the Junior School for the past nine years and has made significant contributions to strengthening academic quality, staff development, student wellbeing, and institutional innovation.

Her appointment reflects the Board’s confidence in her capacity to lead with vision, integrity, and a deep understanding of the school’s culture and aspirations.

As she steps into this new leadership role, we look forward with confidence and excitement to the future of GIS under her guidance; building on a strong legacy while embracing new possibilities for growth and excellence.

The Board looks forward to working closely with Ms. Bruce-Muller as she leads the School into its next chapter of continued growth and global impact.

Visiting International Educators (October 2024 Cohort)

The visit of the first cohort of the Visiting International Educators (VIE) programme for the 2024-25 academic year ended at the end of October 2024. Three seasoned educators from Kenya and the United Kingdom joined us. They were: Mrs. Millicent Masira from Kenya, and Dr. Sophia Akibo-Betts and Mr. Glen Akibo-Betts from the United Kingdom. They brought diverse expertise and perspectives to enrich the educational experience at GIS.

The VIE team worked in the Secondary School and participated in activities such as co-teaching with GIS teachers and conducting workshops. One of the VIE, Mrs. Masira presented at the GIS 8th TIME Educators Conference on the topic, ‘Building Resilience: Empowering Teachers and Students’, while Mr. and Dr. Akibo-Betts presented a bespoke workshop for GIS Secondary School teachers on ‘Data Analysis and Action Planning – An Academic Cycle’ as part of our professional development programme.

During their visit, they had the opportunity to observe and enjoy landmark GIS events like the United Nations and National Costume Day, take a trip to the Central Region, and explore the vibrant city of Accra. It was a truly immersive and culturally enriching experience that showcased camaraderie, community involvement, and international partnerships.

For all of the VIE, this visit marked their first time in Ghana and GIS is proud to have been a part of such memorable experiences. A feedback session allowed them to share valuable insights and perspectives on the school. They were thoroughly impressed and expressed interest in maintaining and leveraging this wonderful experience.

Hosting the Visiting International Educators (VIE) at GIS exemplifies the school’s dedication to global education and cross-cultural understanding, as reflected in our motto: “Understanding of Each Other”. By welcoming educators from diverse backgrounds and countries, GIS creates an environment where students, teachers, and staff can engage in meaningful exchanges, learn from different perspectives, and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

As we look forward to welcoming the next cohort of international educators in March 2025, we would like to extend our gratitude to the staff, students, and parents who helped to make this possible and such a success!

GIS has introduced two Pearson BTEC International Courses in Music and Creative Media

In line with the school’s mission of providing students with an internationally diverse school experience, GIS has introduced two (2) Pearson BTEC International Courses in Music and Creative Media. BTEC is a vocational qualification that is based on practical, hands-on study and will run concurrently with the IGCSE program.

Through internship opportunities, students can extend their skills into the real world, even before graduation. Under the guidance of mentors and industry professionals, students refine their technical skills and gain an understanding of cultural, historical, and societal aspects within their chosen art forms.

The Country Representative for Pearson International, Mr. Gabriel Sowah Mensah, presented the Pearson BTEC plaque to our Principal and the BTEC team at GIS.

Rare Disease Day

Today is Rare Diseases Day! It is celebrated every year on February 28th (or February 29th in leap years) to raise awareness about rare diseases in the world. Recently, the Infant School celebrated the day from Wednesday, February 21st to Friday, February 23rd, 2024.

The primary objective of the celebration was to raise awareness about rare diseases and their impact on patients and families. 1 in 20 people will live with a rare disease at some point in their lives. As part of the awareness campaign, pupils came to school dressed in different outfits all week, including athletic wear, twin Care Buddy outfits, black and white plain, striped or polka dot clothes, and even zebra mascot apparel.

The theme for this year’s celebration was “Share Your Colours and Light up for Rare.” A very big thank you to our Infant School community for always making time to educate and show care to our community members and the rest of the world. #RareDiseaseDay #awareness #children #infants #GIS #schools

GIS collaborates with Right To Dream Academy (RTD)

We are thrilled to share our recent collaboration with Right To Dream Academy (RTD)! Three passionate staff from GIS were warmly welcomed at RTD’s beautiful campus old Akrade in the Eastern Region. Following their attendance at the recently organized GIS Time Educators Conference, RTD requested that we conduct yet another insightful workshop for their staff on “Special Education Needs and Strategies for Surpassing Expectations in Teaching and Learning.” We were delighted to oblige!

This kind of partnership forms part of our strategic plan to positively expand educational access for educators and students in Ghana and beyond.

Our goal is to share our expertise and strengthen the educational landscape through our hardworking teaching and non-teaching staff. The workshop on Saturday, Jan 13th, marks the beginning of an exciting partnership with RTD and we look forward to more collaborations in the future.

GIS Celebrates Annual Speech, Prize-Giving & Upper Sixth Form Graduation Day

On Thursday 29th June, 2023, we met once again as a community to express gratitude for yet another cohort of successful Secondary School graduates. As well, we celebrated students in Forms 1- Lower 6 who had lived out our guiding principles and reached for excellence in Academics, Arts, Sports, Community Service and Student Life.

What a joy to see families come together to celebrate! From Nursery through to Upper Secondary, our staff have supported families by nurturing these students to this point of Upper 6th Form Graduation.

To our committed Board of Directors led by Mr Kwakwa (Board Chair), our Leadership & Management Team led by Dr Mary Ashun (Principal), our academic and non academic Staff, thank you for continuing to provide an environment where every child has the potential to succeed.

To our dedicated parents…congratulations for seeing your children through another year! You are cherished and we are glad you are part of the community.

GIS’ Janelle Gyampo has been selected to play for Ghana at the FIBA U16 African Championship

Guess what? It’s the 8th edition of the FIBA U16 African Championship and our Form 4 student, Janelle Gyampo has been selected to play for Ghana. She will join the Ghana women’s youth team for the Zone 3 qualifiers. This will be the first time Ghana will be making their first appearance in this category ahead of the 2024 FIBA U17 World Championship. Congratulations Janelle! We hope that Ghana qualifies for the next round of this tournament for you to represent us at the World Cup. We wish you the very best! Continue to shine and make us proud!

GIS Infant School Makes Donations to the 37 Military Hospital Children’s Ward

For several years, the Infant School has supported many children in need from various organisations. This year, their festival of 100 Languages was themed “Show Your Love”, carefully selected by the Infant School Student Council Representatives. The event had immense support from parents who came to celebrate various activities and fundraising events. The festival climaxed with a donation from the Infants and their parents to the 37 Military Hospital Childrens Ward. To make this possible, each class in the Infant School had an empty box placed in front of their classroom where they donated colouring books, crayons, notebooks, stuffed animals (teddy bears), books and non-perishable food items to help put a smile on the faces of these recuperating children. Pupils and parents went the extra mile to make beautiful get-well-soon cards as part of the donation. The donation was presented to the children at the hospital yesterday by Selected teachers of the Infant School. A big thank you to everyone who supported this beautiful gesture of kindness. A big well done to all our Infant School children and community members! Let us continue to make an impact and make a difference in the lives of others!

Join us in congratulating our very own Hai Yu YU (Form 5) for emerging as the overall winner of the 2023 Giti Classic Golf Championship (Amateur category). The weekend event which was held at the Celebrity Golf Course in Sakumono had top golfers from Nigeria, Benin, Liberia, Togo and La Cote D’Ivoire. With discipline, patience, dedication and focus, Hai Yu made us all proud by emerging as the winner amidst the fierce competition. Congratulations Hai Yu!!! Go GIS!
