GIS Students Head to Richmond for the 2026 International Emerging Leaders Conference

Ghana International School is pleased to announce its participation in the 2026 International Emerging Leaders Conference (IELC), taking place from 3–10 October 2026 in Richmond, Virginia, USA.

A delegation of four students and one teacher will represent Ghana in a week of environmental problem-solving, design thinking, leadership development and cross-cultural collaboration with students from around the world.

The GIS delegation will present research on urban flooding in Accra and share aspects of Ghanaian culture with fellow participants from Argentina, Italy, Mexico, China, Morocco, South Africa and the USA.

We wish our students (Andrea M., Adwita K., Keziah-Norah L., and Aaditya R.) a safe, meaningful and memorable IELC experience as they represent Ghana with warmth, dignity and confidence.

Mr. Andrew Sowah, Mathematics teacher, will serve as the chaperone on the trip.

Today, we honoured our IGCSE candidates, many of whom achieved multiple A*S and AS in various subjects.

This year, an incredible 33% of our candidates achieved a minimum of 6 AS, an outstanding achievement that reflects their hard work, determination and commitment to excellence.

… and even more reason to celebrate… one of our students achieved an extraordinary 10 A*S!

Welcome to the GIS Family: New Staff Orientation 2026

In the first week of September 2026, we were pleased to welcome our newest staff members to a two-day New Staff Orientation Programme organised by the HR Department.

The programme allowed our new colleagues to meet the Management Team, learn about our school community, systems and processes, and better understand what it means to be part of the GIS family.

Our Principal, Ms Nadia Bruce-Muller, warmly welcomed the team and shared her vision and expectations, highlighting excellence, professionalism, wellbeing, collaboration and our shared commitment to being One School.

GIS Triumphs at The Art Peeps Challenge!

Two talented students, Jenell Bram Annor (Lower 6) and Gehna Sakrani (Form 3), made Ghana International School proud at the prestigious Art Peeps Challenge, themed “Finding My Voice Through Art”.

Jenell claimed 1st position, while
Gehna achieved an impressive 4th place among fierce competition! Their exceptional talent earned them trophies, certificates, and a chance to exhibit their work at a premier hotel, along with exciting prizes, including a full painting set and a GHS 2,000 cash award!

The 8th Time Educators Conference

This year, the 8th Time Educators Conference, with the theme “Owning the Future: Teachers, Students, and New Knowledge,” is due to take place on Saturday, October 5th, 2024 at the GIS Secondary School Campus. The event promises to be insightful with our Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker, Mrs. Rica Rwigamba (Country Director, Master Card Foundation) and a welcome address by a Principal and Head of School Frank D. Amponsah-Mensah Esq.

For the past seven years, the TIME Educators Conference has not only Transformed, Inspired, Motivated and Educated (TIME) teachers and administrators but it has also helped establish Ghana International School as a centre of excellence for professional development. The conference offers a wide range of seminar and workshop opportunities, facilitated by dynamic presenters who are themselves educators or administrators.

GIS meets the Accra Girls Senior High School Team

The Principal of Ghana International School Mr. Amponsah-Mensah, led by a team of staff members from the GIS Literature, Music, and Administrative departments, paid an appreciation visit to Labone Senior High and Accra Girls Senior High Schools. The visit was to celebrate the excellent collaboration on our recent musical adaptation, “The Sound of Music,” which was a beautiful success.

Our students had the opportunity to sing and perform with their talented students, making it one of the most enjoyed performances of the year. We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Accra Girls and Labone Senior High School for opening their doors and allowing us to work together wonderfully.

2024 Kwame Pianim Debate

On Wednesday the 27th of March 2024, GIS students rushed into the multipurpose court eagerly awaiting the start of the much-anticipated debate between GIS and St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School.
Following the opening speech by Mr. Ike Kowfie, the debate commenced with Form 4 students of GIS debating their counterparts from St. Thomas Aquinas school. They spoke for the motion: AI Stifles Creativity And Slows Down Human Advancement.
This captivating topic caused students to think deeply about the topic of discussion. They highlighted that AI kills the ‘Eureka!’ moments for humans to experience their inventions or discoveries, taking away the opportunity for them to think critically, amongst others. After this, however, the programme was not over. The seniors, the Lower 6th Formers were yet to argue on an equally captivating and thought-provoking topic: “Brain Drain is a catalyst for innovation and not a barrier to development in Africa”. The two sides battled this with St. Thomas Aquinas arguing against the motion and GIS arguing for it, each making strong points that Africa loses revenue in taxes due to brain drain and continues its dependency on the West when it relies on remittances from citizens abroad.
The debate was closed off with the judges announcing the winners. From the junior team, the students of St. Thomas Aquinas deservingly took home the trophy and in the senior category, Ghana International School came out as the champions! Regardless of who won, both schools and their students worked hard and tirelessly to put this debate together.
To close the debate, there was a short meeting between students of the two schools in the Math room, where the opportunity to expand knowledge on both topics was given. Students engaged with each other, shared ideas and opinions in a moderated but informal way, learnt from each other and built bonds that would hopefully stand the test of time. Thank you to all our English Language/ Literature Department teachers who worked tirelessly to prepare students for the debate and to all the students who cheered on the speakers. We hope to see more collaborations in the future.

GIS’ Nathaniel Arkutu Wins 2023 World Food Day Poster Contest

Congratulations to Nathaniel Arkutu (Form 3Y) for placing First in the UN 2023 FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) Poster Contest. The winning Poster was the only selected artwork from West Africa! The World Food Day Contest was open to children and youth worldwide between the ages of 5 and 19. The GIS Art Department therefore presented this opportunity as classwork to all the Lower Secondary Students and guess what; we won!

We are therefore super excited to announce that out of 19 countries and 59 participants, Nathaniel Arkutu was shortlisted and eventually won the first (1st) position for the category of ages 13-15. Congratulations all around and a very big thank you to our Teachers who continue to encourage our students to give their best in any endeavour. Ayekoo!

Congratulations to Ewuraba Asmah

Congratulations to Ewuraba Asmah, a Lower 6 Former and a Boarding Student of GIS for winning the 2023 Academic City University College Art Competition for High School Students.

Ewuraba claimed the top spot and left a lasting impression during her presentation at the fiercely held competition. Her award-winning watercolour painting, “Beyond the High Rise”, captured high-rise buildings, within a rural setting.

According to Ewuraba, this is symbolic of her opinion of Ghana’s current economic state of affairs. She believes that these infrastructural developments do not accommodate the needs of the lower-class citizens, and help to create a much wider divide between them and people of a higher class. “I tried to capture the concept that, on the surface, the country may look developed even though it truly is not, as it doesn’t benefit everyone or even those most in need.”- Ewuraba.

Well done, Ewuraba! And congratulations once again for making us all so proud. All the best!
