GIS Infant School Celebrates Rare Disease Day on 28th of February 2018

Today, 28th February 2018 marks the eleventh International Rare Disease Day. The main objective of Rare Disease Day is to raise awareness about rare diseases and their impact on patients’ and their families. Learning about rare diseases is so important because 1 in 20 people will live with a rare disease at some point in their life.

This year, Pupils and Staff within the Infant School community showed up in school wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt to commemorate the day and to show their support.

They had their faces painted, participated in a friendly presentation and discussion about rare diseases and made lots of beautiful hand-prints to support the day. We believe that being a part of Rare Disease Day will improve knowledge amongst the general public and encourage researchers and decision makers to address the needs of those living with a rare disease.

At Ghana International School we strive to ensure that each member of our community demonstrates ‘Understanding of Each Other’ and shows respect for diversity that promotes respect for persons with different abilities.There are many creative ways to support and create awareness.
